During high season and weekends the wait can be anywhere between 2 to 10 hours. During the week, the wait can go down to 45 minutes. In case you get hungry, there are a few kiosks/fast food stands near the entrance to the main customs building. The first one next to the entrance has great Choripan sandwiches.

Is a great place but Customs is a pain in the butt.

When I needed to return home to my hungry family they would not me drive through because the rental car company permit was “expired” according to Argentina border when in fact the expiration was supposed to be Jan 05. Passing through is pretty simple. If you are driving a rental car make sure you have the permit for 200 and be sure it does not expire anywhere within a month. The easiest way to get in th building with a car is by driving through the area that says “bus”. It’s not for bus, it’s for cars. Don’t go from behind unless you just want to park the car. Bring your own toilet paper

Took the 10pm bus from Santiago, reaching here at midnight. Spent the next 5 hours standing in various lines that did not move. No communication telling us the procedure, either on signs or from staff. Largely disinterested and incompetent staff using systems that seem intentionally designed to delay. Makes the two guys manning the tiny outpost I used in Bolivia look like border agents extraordinaire. Simply the worst border crossing I've ever experienced.

Driving a rental car? Yep, you have to stop by, like it or not :)
