Great example of argentinas century long stalemate. There should be a bridge to Uruguay and link these two great countries. Instead, there is a private ferry company that, some years ago, massively benefited from some road closures upstream.

Very early morning ferry to Montevideo. Long line ups at every stage but it was fairly smooth. The ferry itself was strange to me you couldnt see out the windows. Coming from British Columbia where the scenery is worth the price of a ferry ride it made me feel a bit sea sick. No outside area either just a lot of people wearing heavy perfume. Not the companies fault I know but fresh air would have been nice.
Very simple and fast. No delays, everything went well. They have a good system. The cost to the airport would be expensive and long lines. The airline ticket is significantly higher. Then you would need to pay for a taxi into the city of Montevideo. I think the exchange rate offered on the ship is bad. 100 Argentina pesos for 37 Uruguayan pesos. I think that is a bad exchange rate. Much faster, cheaper and relaxing than flying. And immigration exit and entrance into Uruguay is in the same place.
What a fun day trip to Uruguay. The economy seats are just fine and have plenty of space. The main things I wish they could improve would be to provide wifi and to not bottleneck all passengers into a single file to get off the boat.
Pleasant experience with the Francisco ferry to/from Montevideo. No need to turn up 2 hours early, there isn’t much available once you are through security and immigration. Otherwise service is good.
Excellent ferry and staff. The bus didn't pick me up from the hotel, although I paid in advance for it. So I had to find a taxi and pay again
Quite expensive for what you get - USD 75 for a day return trip with bus transfer from Colonia - Montevideo. No on board food included - average and expensive food and drink offerings. Buquebus has a monopoly on this service and so can seemingly charge what it wants, which is disappointing. We hear that it was the other way around when Buquebus entered the market about 20-30 Years ago...perhaps it’s time for another competitor to enter the fray.
Abominable service. Expensive, old and dirty. Customs is a mess. A short trip that should be super quick and easy turns into a nightmare for poor admin. Take a flight, expensive but you will save in a terrible headache.
